Jane was born on March 25, 1929 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Emerson Bowser and Mae Kelly Bowser. After graduating from high school, Jane attended nursing school in PA earning her RN. In 1952, she met the love of her life, Robert A. Gearhart, Sr. (Bob). They married the following year and settled in Sterling, VA. They had been married 52 years at the time of Bob’s passing in 2005.
Janie was a giver. She never hesitated to help anyone whenever or wherever she could. She was a master seamstress making clothes for herself, her children and grandchildren. She prided herself on the hundreds of teddy bears she made and donated to hospitals, police departments, and fire stations used to calm children in distress. Jane was also an accomplished pianist who began playing at the age of eight. She played the piano for a number of churches and she, along with her husband, would entertain the residents of several nursing homes.
Survivors include: her daughter and primary care giver, Martha Jane Sink, and her husband, George Sink, her son, Robert A. Gearhart, Jr. (Ginger); four grandchildren: Kelli Nicole Cook (Bryan), Michael Christopher Gearhart (Ashley), Jessica Gearhart Rapoza (Ryan), Ryan Matthew Gearhart (Jacqueline) and five great grandchildren: Taylor Lynn Rapoza, Kaylyn Harper Johnston, Cooper Jacob Hill, Ellie Bae Hill, and Sydney Blair Rapoza. Jane also leaves behind her precious puppy, Gracie. The family is grateful to Jane’s dear friend, Melva Saiter, and would also like to thank Blount Memorial Hospice for their compassionate care.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a private graveside service at Quantico National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 11:00 am.
