Clarence S. Boothby, 71, died on his plantation near Picayune, Miss. He was a resident of Sleepy Hollow, near Barrington. Born in Wiscasset, Maine, he came to Chicago over 50 years ago. He was president and chairman of the Jahn and Ollier Engraving Company, 817 Washington Blvd.

He is survived by his wife, Clara A.; a son, Palmer C., Hinsdale; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn F. Stephens, Hinsdale, wife of Russell F. Stephens, insurance manager of The Tribune.

Services will be held in Union Church. Burial wil be in La Grange Cemetery.
