Tom was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was a proud alumnus of Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. A long-time educator, he impacted the lives of thousands of students as a teacher and administrator in Rockwood School District and professor of education at UMSL. As the first principal of Rockwood Summit High School, Tom combined his passion for teaching and learning with his interest in architecture, designing and building the school from the ground up and setting the foundation for its future success.
Tom enjoyed traveling and meticulously planned family vacations. He often selected trip destinations based on the location of buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and he loved relaxing at the beach in Jekyll Island, Georgia. Besides traveling, Tom happily devoted his retirement to caring for his grandchildren; he took the most pride in his role as their Pa. Funeral Services will be private by invitation only. Family and friends may view the service on Friday, February 5, at 11:30 am via live stream at www.boppchapel.com , under Dr. Thomas L. Hensleys name.
