Henry C. Wilson was born in North Carolina1 about 1817 of parents currently unknown.

Lemuel L. Wilson2 is a brother of Henry C. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida. Martha B. Tison was born 21 April 1826 in Georgia,3 the eldest of six children of Aaron and Louisa Jane Dell Tison.

There was a major economic recession in the United States 1837-1843.

In June 1838, Henry C. Wilson became a resident of Florida.4

25 June 1840 H. C. Wilson5 was witness to a deed between George F. Olmsted and Woodbridge S. Olmsted at Territory of Florida, Alachua County.

The index of the 1840 federal census of Florida does not list Henry C. Wilson.

Henry C. Wilson and Martha B. Tison were married 1 April 1841, in Territory of Florida, Alachua County.6

Jasper Newton Wilson was born to Henry and Martha 27 March 1842 in Florida.7

The Florida Armed Occupation Act was approved on 4 August 1842. This act provided that one hundred and sixty acres would be given to any "head of family or single man over eighteen" that was able to bear arms, but he also was required to live on the land for five years and cultivate at least five acres.

January 22, 1843, a H. C. Wilson was present at a signing of a deed to Mary Ann Garrason lot No. 5 in Block No. 3 Range No.2 in Newnansville, Alachua County.8

On 23 January 1843, H. C. Wilson was a "Subscribers of a Petition to Congress by Inhabitants of East Florida" to prevent Congress from removing papers.9

Henry signed for his land under the Armed Occupation Act on 24 day of July 1843 and it stated he was head of a family. He became a resident of Florida June 1838. The land was located NW 1/4 quarter of Section 8, Township 12 South, Range 14 East. This land is located now in Levy County, WSW of Chiefland, Florida - Chiefland is ENE of the land. Levy County was created in 1845 from Alachua and Marian Counties. The town of Chiefland is in W1/2 Section 1. All of Section 8 now belongs to the Georgia Pacific Corporation and is crossed by Gobbler Road, Pat-Mac Road, Williard Road and Hade Road.

Henry C. Wilson was clerk of Alachua County, Florida10 from 26 September 1843 to 18 October 1845.

Louisa Cole Wilson was born to Henry and Martha 31 October 1843,11 in Florida.

Alachua County Election 6 November 1843 for County Clerk shows Henry C. Wilson with 155 votes and Thomas J. Prevatt with 127.12

On 24 November 184413 Robert G. Livingston sold to Henry C. Wilson for $200.00 a certain house situated in the Town of Newnansville in Alachua County containing six rooms more particularly know as the Goodrich House.

The requirement to vote in the Florida First Election which was held 26 May 1845. You had to be a free white male, 21 years of age and member of state militia by time ballot was cast. Place of abode in territory and state for two years immediately preceding the election, and had to have lived in the county of residence for 6 months preceding election day as well.

Henry C. Wilson voted in the First Statewide Election, 26 May 1845 in Alachua County, Florida, Newnansville Precinct.14

Francis C. Wilson was born to Henry and Martha abt. 1846,15, in Florida.

Henry C. Wilson was County Judge of Probate at Newnansville, Alachua County, Florida October 1847 - April 1848.17.

In 1848 only 56 of the 292 children in Alachua County could read and write, according to a state census. School attendance was voluntary, and most schools, met only three or four months a year.

In 1848 and 1849, in North America there was a cholera epidemic.

Willson, age 34 as a farmer born in North Carolina, value of real estate $5,200, Martha B. age 23 born in Florida?, Jasper N. age 8 born in Florida, Louisa C. age 7 born in Florida, Francis C. age 4 born in Florida, Chepson Whitehead age 21 a farmer born in Virginia in household of Henry C. Willson.18

Virginia E. Wilson was born to Henry and Martha November, 1850 in Florida19.

2 June 1851, Henry C. Wilson was appointed as one of the Road Commissioners District Number 4. The area was Bellamy Road leading from Newnansville to the County line of Alachua and Putnam.20 The Bellamy Road was the first US government road in Florida.

In 1852, nationwide, there was a yellow fever epidemic.

H. C. Wilson on 14 June 1852 was appointed one of the Road Commissioners. The location Belamy Road leading from Newnansville to Pilatka (Palatka).21 Palatka in Putnam County a distance of 55 miles from Newnansville.

Wilson's Blacksmith Shop is mentioned 8 November 1852 in Order #2 to divide the County into Road Districts. Wilson's Blacksmith Shop was to be in District 4.22

Harrie E. was born to Henry and Martha Wilson about 1853 in Florida.23

Henry C. Wilson, age about 36, died 23 or 28 December 1853 in Newnansville, Alachua County, Florida. Henry is buried at Old Newnansville Cemetery.24

I would send the money at this time, but as your Brother's Estate is owing me $25.00 for a night visit to Newnansville to see him. (for if I am not mistaken it was on your request I paid the visit) and I suppose it would suit you as well, to settle that debt in that way, as any other. I hereby authorize you to pay that account to Wm. Dell and this should be your receipt in full on your Brother's Estate.

I think we Whigs, hereafter may lay low and keep dark? for there is no chance for us.

Martha B. Wilson married Juan A. Sisterre in Alachua County, Florida 12 November 1855. It appears this marriage didn't last long. Martha was again using "Wilson" on the 1860 census.27

On 25 April 1856, in the Circuit Court of the Eastern Circuit Alachua County, Florida, in Chancery Court of Alachua County, Florida - Lemuel Wilson vs Juan A. Sisterre, Martha B. Sisterre, his wife, Jasper N. Wilson, Louisa C. Wilson, Frances Wilson, Virginia A. Wilson, Harry E. Wilson minors. Bill of Relief - Now on this day comes the complainants by his solicitors, Smith and Bradford and moved that this case be set down for a final hearing on the second Monday in May ? the same being the time of the next Circuit Court in and for said County. Signed Lemuel Wilson - Clerk.

Box Newnansville, dated 4 July 1860, household number 361, family number 370 lists Martha Wilson age 34, as head of household, occupation Farmer, value of real estate $800.00, value of personal $2100.00, born in Georgia, J. Newton Wilson age 18, occupation Farm Laborer born in Florida, Frances Wilson, age 14 born in Florida, Virginia Wilson age 10 born in Florida, Harrie Wilson age 7 born in Florida.30

On 4 April 1866 Jasper Newton Wilson, a son of Henry and Martha Wilson, married Laura Strobar Guinn daughter of Peter W. Guinn and Rebecca Tucker in Alachua County, Florida married by Rev. Paul Colson.31

Alachua County Florida Deed 8 December 1866 in Book G page 683 Martha B. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida for $500.00 sells to Horatio Jenkins and Leonard G. Dennis (of Gordon) in the County of Alachua, Florida land: The N ½ of Lots 11 and 12 and Lot #3 Section 6 in Township 8 South, Range 20 East. Witness Horatio Jenkins and S. H. Garvin of Essex County, Mass.32

Alachua County Florida Deed 15 January 1870 Indenture - Martha B. Wilson and Harrie E. Wilson of Alachua County and William C. Summers for $200.00 sell land E ½ and SW ¼ of NE ¼ of Section 1, Township 8 South, Range 18 East containing 100 acres more or less. Witness George W. Boston and F. P. Olmstead signed M. B. Wilson and Harrie E. Wilson.33

The federal census Alachua County Florida 26 August 1870 page 208 list Martha Wilson, age 44, head of household, occupation Housekeeper born in Georgia, Virginia Wilson 19 born in Florida and Harry [sic] Harrie M age 17 born in Florida.34

April 1875 Florida State, Alachua County census list Martha Wilson age 49 and Harry [sic] Harrie Wilson age 20.35

Alachua County, Florida Deed - 15 January 1877, Martha B. and Harrie E. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida to Charles W. Stephens of the same place, for $200.00 sell land: The W ½ of the NW ¼ of Section 6, Township 8 South, Range 19 East, containing 80 acres more or less signed M. B. and Harrie E. Wilson in the presence of F. P. Olmstead and George W. Boston. George W. Boston swears that he, together with F. P. Olmstead saw them sign.36

Lucy age 29 widow, Occupation housekeeper born in Florida, Father born in North Carolina and Mother born in Georgia, on page 37b? household #155, with Virginia was Johnnie Lucy age 5 her son born in Florida, Father born in Florida and Mother born in Florida. It appears Virginia was living close to her Mother, Martha B. Wilson.38

On 27 December 1880, in Columbia County, the estate settlement of Louisa Jane Dell Hancock, widow of (1) Aaron Tison and (2) Shadrack Hancock, named: daughters Martha B. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida; Mary C. Russell of Columbia County, Florida; Sidney E. Perry of Columbia County, Florida; Jacob M. Walton and wife George? S. Walton of Sumter County, Florida; and, Susan W. Stanford and her husband Thomas Stanford of Columbia County Florida; son William O. Tison and wife Martha J. Hodges Tison of Bradford County, Florida and Richmond Dicks (relationship currently unknown) (Sold for) $550.00, the SE ¼ of NE l/4 except 6 acres in NE corner of the NE l/4 and the NW ¼ of SE 1/4 and the NE ¼ of SE ¼ and the SW ¼ of the SE ¼ of Section 9, Township 5 South, Range 17 East, containing 154 acres more or less All sell their right, interest, title to estate, each 1/6 portion in presence of E. C. Beach; V. E. Lacy (Virginia E. Wilson Lacy or Lucy) (Virginia is the daughter of Henry C. and Martha Tison Wilson) George S. Legrone; Henry English.)

Martha B. Wilson; M.C. Russell; SE Perry; J.M. Walton; G.S. Walton; W.O. Tison; M.J. Tison, Thomas Stanford; E.C Beach swears he saw Martha B. Tison ( sister in law of E.C. Beach) sign above agreement 21 December 1880 Sworn: Georgia S. Walton, wife of Jacob M. Walton: Martha J. Tison, wife of William O. Tison and Susan W. Stanford, wife of Thomas Stanford conveyed to Richmond Dicks for sum of $1.00 in hand paid. All appeared to sign (except Martha B. Wilson), 29 December 1880.39

Martha B. Wilson age about 56 died in 1882. Buried in Old Newnansville Cemetery near Alachua Florida, County of Alachua beside her husband Henry C. Wilson.40

The inscription on Henry C. Wilson's tombstone reads: IN MEMORY OF MY HUSBAND H. C. WILSON WHO DIED AT NEWNANSVILLE DECEMBER 23, 1853 AGED 36 YEARS.

The inscription on Martha's tombstone reads: ERECTED IN MEMORY OF MARTHA B. WILSON WIFE OF H. C. WILSON AND DAUGHTER OF AARON AND LOUISA J. TISON. BORN APRIL 21, 1826 - unable to read date of death in 1996. It appeared the tombstone had been broken and repaired. The bottom of the tombstone reads: WHY SHOULD WE WEEP ABOVE THE BED WHERE DEATH HATH PLACED OUR MOTHER'S HEAD. PAIN SICKNESS SORROW ALL ARE O'ER. SHE IS NOT DEAD BUT GONE BEFORE.

On 4 April 1866 Jasper Newton Wilson, a son of Henry and Martha Wilson, married Laura Strobar Guinn daughter of Peter W. Guinn and Rebecca Tucker in Alachua County, Florida married by Rev. Paul Colson.31

Alachua County Florida Deed 8 December 1866 in Book G page 683 Martha B. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida for $500.00 sells to Horatio Jenkins and Leonard G. Dennis (of Gordon) in the County of Alachua, Florida land: The N ½ of Lots 11 and 12 and Lot #3 Section 6 in Township 8 South, Range 20 East. Witness Horatio Jenkins and S. H. Garvin of Essex County, Mass.32

Alachua County Florida Deed 15 January 1870 Indenture - Martha B. Wilson and Harrie E. Wilson of Alachua County and William C. Summers for $200.00 sell land E ½ and SW ¼ of NE ¼ of Section 1, Township 8 South, Range 18 East containing 100 acres more or less. Witness George W. Boston and F. P. Olmstead signed M. B. Wilson and Harrie E. Wilson.33

The federal census Alachua County Florida 26 August 1870 page 208 list Martha Wilson, age 44, head of household, occupation Housekeeper born in Georgia, Virginia Wilson 19 born in Florida and Harry [sic] Harrie M age 17 born in Florida.34

April 1875 Florida State, Alachua County census list Martha Wilson age 49 and Harry [sic] Harrie Wilson age 20.35

Alachua County, Florida Deed - 15 January 1877, Martha B. and Harrie E. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida to Charles W. Stephens of the same place, for $200.00 sell land: The W ½ of the NW ¼ of Section 6, Township 8 South, Range 19 East, containing 80 acres more or less signed M. B. and Harrie E. Wilson in the presence of F. P. Olmstead and George W. Boston. George W. Boston swears that he, together with F. P. Olmstead saw them sign.36

19 June 1880 Federal Census, Alachua County list Martha Wilson, household number 156, page 37B?, age 54, widowed, occupation housekeeper, under miscellaneous information shows farmer, place of birth Georgia and showing her mother and father's place of birth Georgia.37

On the 1880 federal census, Alachua County, Florida Martha and Henry C. Wilson's daughter, Virginia E. Lucy age 29 widow, Occupation housekeeper born in Florida, Father born in North Carolina and Mother born in Georgia, on page 37b? household #155, with Virginia was Johnnie Lucy age 5 her son born in Florida, Father born in Florida and Mother born in Florida. It appears Virginia was living close to her Mother, Martha B. Wilson.38

On 27 December 1880, in Columbia County, the estate settlement of Louisa Jane Dell Hancock, widow of (1) Aaron Tison and (2) Shadrack Hancock, named: daughters Martha B. Wilson of Alachua County, Florida; Mary C. Russell of Columbia County, Florida; Sidney E. Perry of Columbia County, Florida; Jacob M. Walton and wife George? S. Walton of Sumter County, Florida; and, Susan W. Stanford and her husband Thomas Stanford of Columbia County Florida; son William O. Tison and wife Martha J. Hodges Tison of Bradford County, Florida and Richmond Dicks (relationship currently unknown) (Sold for) $550.00, the SE ¼ of NE l/4 except 6 acres in NE corner of the NE l/4 and the NW ¼ of SE 1/4 and the NE ¼ of SE ¼ and the SW ¼ of the SE ¼ of Section 9, Township 5 South, Range 17 East, containing 154 acres more or less All sell their right, interest, title to estate, each 1/6 portion in presence of E. C. Beach; V. E. Lacy (Virginia E. Wilson Lacy or Lucy) (Virginia is the daughter of Henry C. and Martha Tison Wilson) George S. Legrone; Henry English.)

Martha B. Wilson; M.C. Russell; SE Perry; J.M. Walton; G.S. Walton; W.O. Tison; M.J. Tison, Thomas Stanford; E.C Beach swears he saw Martha B. Tison ( sister in law of E.C. Beach) sign above agreement 21 December 1880 Sworn: Georgia S. Walton, wife of Jacob M. Walton: Martha J. Tison, wife of William O. Tison and Susan W. Stanford, wife of Thomas Stanford conveyed to Richmond Dicks for sum of $1.00 in hand paid. All appeared to sign (except Martha B. Wilson), 29 December 1880.39

Martha B. Wilson age about 56 died in 1882. Buried in Old Newnansville Cemetery near Alachua Florida, County of Alachua beside her husband Henry C. Wilson.40

The inscription on Henry C. Wilson's tombstone reads: IN MEMORY OF MY HUSBAND H. C. WILSON WHO DIED AT NEWNANSVILLE DECEMBER 23, 1853 AGED 36 YEARS.

The inscription on Martha's tombstone reads: ERECTED IN MEMORY OF MARTHA B. WILSON WIFE OF H. C. WILSON AND DAUGHTER OF AARON AND LOUISA J. TISON. BORN APRIL 21, 1826 - unable to read date of death in 1996. It appeared the tombstone had been broken and repaired. The bottom of the tombstone reads: WHY SHOULD WE WEEP ABOVE THE BED WHERE DEATH HATH PLACED OUR MOTHER'S HEAD. PAIN SICKNESS SORROW ALL ARE O'ER. SHE IS NOT DEAD BUT GONE BEFORE.
