The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday February 7, 2021 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. David Williams, Rev. Dennis Green and Rev. Scott Tomlinson will officiate.
Mr. Thompson was born on December 15, 1933 in Elkhorn, KY., to the late Fred and Nannie Mae Ford Thompson. He had lived in Worth County since 1962 and was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force, where he was an aircraft mechanic. Mr. Thompson was the owner and operator of Joe Thompson heating and air. He enjoyed woodworking, building wooden toys for children, traveling and listening to gospel music, but most importantly spending time with his friends and family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. Mr. Thompson was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Thompson of Doerun; children, Lana Kay Conner (Homer) of Pitts, GA., Joey Wade Thompson (Emily) of Sumner, and Ricky Thompson (Dawn) of Doerun; grandchildren, Hal Mullis, Chad Mullis, James Creel, Jeremy Thompson, Brandi Stodola, Leah Simpson, Denny Green, Chris Hendry, Kaleigh Whitman, Bristal Miller, Jaiden Thompson, April Young and Russ Young (Michelle); 17 great grandchildren; brother, Owen Turner Thompson of Kentucky, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death a sister, Annie Rae Thompson
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
