James was born in Bellshill, Scotland onApril 15, 1912. He signed up inWalkerton
in October 1939 and trained in Listowel, Petawawa, Tracadie NB and southern
England from 1940 to 1944. He sailed to France on July 12, 1944. James fought
with the 7th Medium Regiment, RCA through Caen towards Falaise. He was one
of three killed by friendly fire from RAF bombers on August 14, 1944, in
Cintheaux, France. He drove a truck that pulled a medium gun and its crew. He
saved the truck and gun when he was hit and killed at around noon on August 14.
