Kevin D Backwater of Kenwood passed from this life on January 26th, 2021 in Springfield, MO
at the age of 48. Kevin was born on January 2nd, 1973 in Claremore, OK to Leroy Backwater
Jr. and Mary Elaine Young.
Kevin grew up in Kenwood where he attended Kenwood School through the 8th grade and he
accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. As he got into his youth he attended Jay High School
where he graduated in 1991. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Army and then in the
National Guard. Kevin married his best friend and true love, Janet Kaye Backwater on May 15th
2004. They eventually made their home in Kenwood. Kevin work as industrial mechanic for
many years. He had always dreamed of being a truck driver for Wal-Mart. He accomplished his
dream by hard work and determination. Kevin loved to be at the creek pitching horseshoes or
gigging. He also enjoyed riding horses with Choogie. Kevin was an avid OU fan and loved
watching the games with family and friends that would yell just as loud as he did. He also loved
going to the OU home openers every year. Kevin loved his family more than anything and was
beyond words proud of his grandbabies. He always enjoyed planning family get togethers. He
never met a stranger and would give anyone a hard time. He was a loving husband, brother,
son, papa, uncle, and friend will be sorely missed.
Kevin was preceded in death by daughters, Kaleigh Elaine and Kallie Dawn; Father, Leroy
Backwater Jr.; Paternal grandparents Leroy Sr. and Polly Backwater; Maternal grandparents
Terry and Jessie Mae Standingwater. He is survived by his wife Janet Backwater of the home.
Son Kalen Backwater and girlfriend Ashley of Locust Grove; Son Caleb Backwater and girlfriend
Baylee of Jay; Daughter, Tristan Sanders and boyfriend Levi of West Siloam; Mother Mary
Young and Bonus Dad Hiram of Salina; Bonus Mom, Paula Backwater of Kenwood; Sister
Paula Waldroop and husband Heath of Watts, OK; Brother, Matthew Backwater Sr. and wife
Priscilla of Tahlequah; Sister, Amy Harding and husband Bryan of Moore, OK; Sister, Holly
Backwater and wife Jessica of Hartman, AR; Benjamin Backwater and wife Bree of Kenwood;
Grandbabies; Sterling, Madi, Maverick, Keaton, Jordan, Native and Koda; and numerous
nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
