Michael Mason (Little Gus), 64, passed away at Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Born January 22, 1957, he was the son of the late John T. “Gus” Allen, and son of the late Zona Swain Taylor. He attended Calhoun City High School.

Mike had three things in life that he loved. His first love was Nettie Josephine Conner Mason, his wife of 43 years. Second was fishing. He could sit on the creek bank all day. It did not matter if the fish were biting or not, he and Ms. Nettie were there with a five gallon bucket and a cane pole waiting for the next bite.

Third, Mike’s goal in life was to become a police officer, but he was unable to fulfill his ambition. So, he took the role upon himself to become Derma Security Officer. He often patrolled on foot or on his bicycle. You could go down Highway 8 and see him on his bicycle at the Round Top trying to catch people breaking the law. Mike had a badge, handcuffs, an old radio, that did not work, and a gun that was not real. But Mike was “WALKING TALL.” He visited the Bank, the store, and the Town Hall to make sure everyone was safe.

The Angels came on Saturday to take Mike home. He is now strolling the streets of Heaven. Life is what you make it, and Mike did the things he loved in life—especially being the Derma Security Guard.

God said, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Mike is home now. Rest in Peace Dear Friend. We love you and will miss you. But, we will meet again in Heaven.

Pryor Funeral Home is honored to serve the Mason family.

A Graveside Service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 2:00pm at Oak Springs Cemetery. Bro. Phil Lucius will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brooks Lucius, Chad Lucius, Mark Lucius, Phil Lucius, and Harvey Wright.

He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Nettie Mason.
