Betty lived in Nazareth her entire life. She married Charles, her junior high school sweetheart, in 1953. They enjoyed spending time together with their many good friends, from breakfasts in Jacobsburg State Park to playing cards and taking cruises. They loved escaping to Florida each year for some winter warmth. As a young woman, she worked for Western Electric and Nazareth Mutual. After staying home to raise their two girls, Betty opened the House of Flowers, which she owned and operated for nearly 10 years. Betty had a special relationship with her granddaughter Elizabeth and great-niece Jocelyn, baking and eating many Toll House cookies together and taking them for rides in the basket of her three-wheeler bike. In addition to her career and her family, Betty always enjoyed volunteering her time, helping with children’s activities at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, as a Girl Scout leader, and delivering Meals on Wheels.
Betty is survived by her husband Charles Reuben Wagner; daughters Gail Elizabeth Wagner and Jill Stephanie Tilney and their husbands Marc Siegel and James Tilney; granddaughter Elizabeth Wagner Biro; sister Kay Betz and her husband, Al; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Keck and Elda Mae Jones; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Ralph Frantz, Wilson Frantz and Dorothy Frantz Messinger, and her stepmother Elsie Miller Frantz.
She will be laid to rest privately at Holy Family Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.schislerfuneralhomes.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Wagner Family Foundation, providing grants to Nazareth area non-profit service organizations, or the Charles R. Wagner and Elizabeth J. M. Wagner Charitable Trust, providing educational scholarships. Donations can be mailed c/o Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home, 211 E. Center St., Nazareth, PA, 18064.
