Bob grew up in Chicago, attended Onahan School, and was a member of the Boy Scouts. He graduated from Taft High School, where he was in the Drum & Bugle Corps and on the Bowling team. Bob went on to study at Northwestern University, IL, and later graduated from the Navy Officers Training Program at the University of Dubuque, Iowa.
Bob and Betty settled in Arlington Heights, IL, where they raised their four children and were very active at Prospect Heights Baptist Church and later at Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church. When they moved to Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, they attended Wheaton Bible Church. Bob was known for his love for God, for family, and for missions, as well as his integrity, kindness, patience, wisdom, and generosity. He had a great sense of humor and a warm smile for everyone he met.
Bob worked at Zurich Insurance, Fireman’s Fund Insurance, and for over 20 years was President of the Oak Brook Group Division of Aegon Insurance USA.
Bob is survived by his four children, Ellen (James) Elwell, David (Alice) Banks, Gail (Richard) Pflederer, and Barbara (Jordon) Korell; his ten grandchildren, Chad Elwell, Nathan (Kara) Elwell, Jordan (Mihwa) Elwell, Nicholas Banks, Anna (Stephen) Banks Cwian, Brent (Jessica) Pflederer, Sarah Pflederer, Brittany (Erik) Heard, Aleena Korell, and Janine (Spencer) Theobald; and six great grandchildren, Jensen Elwell, Bella Elwell, Riley Banks, Jason Pflederer, Brock Heard, and Cooper Heard.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (2014), his parents, and his brother, Charles.
