LEWIS MORRIS DIES SUDDENLY
Winterset Resident 25 Years Dies at work in City Hall
Lewis E. Morris, a well-known Winterset resident for the last 25 years, died here Friday, Dec. 15. He was stricken fatally while at work at the Winterset City hall where he served as the police radio dispatcher. his death occurred there.
Mr. Morris was 51 years of age. He was a native of Taylor county, where he was born Dec. 122, 1916, a son of Harvey G. and Sarah Ann Morris. He was married in Lenox on May 29, 1937, to Veldeva M. Vanderpluym, who survives him.
He moved to Winterset from Lenox 25 years ago, and for 10 years was employed at the Good Bakery in Winterset. After that, he worked for five years for the Winterset Oil company. He had started the police radio work last April.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, James Morris of Peru; and a daughter, Mrs. Jack Grimm of Des Moines. He also leaves a brother, David Morris of Des Moines; and four sisters, Mrs. Donald Strait of Davenport, Mrs. Bertha Stapleton of Burlington, Mrs. Kenneth Countryman of Douds, and Mrs. Keith Schroeder of Des Moines.
Rosary was recited for Mr. Morris by his pastor, the V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins of Winterset, Sunday evening from the Collins Funeral home. The funeral services were held Monday from St. Joseph's Catholic church, conducted by Monsignor Higgins. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery at Creston.
