Eugene "Gene" Reed Hughes, 87, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 17, 2021. Gene was born in Kim, Colo., on May 26, 1933. Preceded in death by hi parents, John Albert and Ola Mildred Hughes; brothers, Paul Hughes, Curtis Hughes and Glen "Clyde" Hughes; and Doris, his wife of 63 years. Survived by children, Michael (Marlene) Hughes and Sheryl (Chris) Trask; grandchildren, Brian (Daisy) Hughes, Megan (Scott) Brown, Christina (Jack) Eddy and Stephen (Shaunna) Trask; and nine great-grandchildren. Gene was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, usher and Sunday school teacher at various churches throughout his life. "Gene the Barber" retired from barbering after 57 years, a majority of which was at the Southside King Soopers. Gene loved to tell stories about his many adventures and life's experiences. Gene will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at Heritage Baptist Church, 2122 Overton Road in Pueblo.
