My memory of my father is probably the best a girl could have.
He was so kind, quiet, giving and had an unusal sense of humor.
I think he would have liked to have a son but being the youngest daughter, I got all the special occassions to do things with my dad that a son would do. We always had a box seat at Tiger Stadium, didn't miss the Red wing hockey games. Did the boxing matches, traveled around Michigan on weekends and best of all, he was the one who always took me shopping for school cloths. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner which got me into a lot of fun times. He was not a rich man in the dollar sense but he always gave me his time which was precious to me. He was a quiet man who usually didn't have much to say unless it was important. He never met a stranger and was always there for me. We would go fishing together, with me tied along behind the boat in an inner tube. He loved my friends and enjoyed having them around. There are many stories to tell about him but the list is endless.
Example- Where we lived as I was growing up, we could not have any pets but my dad went out in the night and found an irish setter and brought it home to spend the night with me in bed. My mother was furious but he held fast for the night and said: my daughter is going to have a dog if only for a night.
He served his country well in World War One and came home injured with many medical problems but that didn't stop him.
We would sit by the radio and listen to the games when we couldn't get to them. I would help him keep score if there were more than one game going on. His love was not displayed in public but as I grew older, I finally realized the love he had for me in his heart.
I held his hand when he passed away and it was then that he told me that he loved me and then was gone. I would give all I posses to have him and my mother back. Our time with our parents is a treasure that we do not want to lose. The memories will last a life time! I love you Dad and will someday see you again. Love Rudy
