Edward "Hank" Sturgis, of Springfield, died at 5:40 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2007 at St. John's Hospice. Hank was born January 30, 1926 in Springfield, the son of Gerald and Gertrude Corcoran Sturgis; they preceded him in death.

He attended St. Patrick Grade School and Cathedral Boys High School. He was in the Marine Corps, Second Division for 10 years, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict, and earned a Purple Heart. He retired in 1986 as a carpenter with Carpenter Local # 16. He served as Republican Precinct Committeeman for 15 years, and was a member of American Legion Post 32 and Marine Corp League.

He is survived by his wife, Molly J. Sturgis of Springfield, one son: Michael (Debbie) Sturgis of Springfield; three daughters: Margaret (David) Wagneroski of Ohio, Mary (Bill) Filburn- Kuhar of Springfield, and Martha Rowland of Clarksville, TN; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Mass, October 16, 2007 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 North Milton Ave., Springfield.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
