Jessie grew up in a coal miner’s family. She loved to tell stories about the hardships they faced, the places they lived, and the mischief she got into with her sister, Grace. Her family wound up in Ola, Arkansas, where she met Jack Walker at a high school basketball game. They married on October 13, 1947, in Danville, Arkansas, where their first son was born. It was then that Jack joined the army and Jessie found herself living the military life. Jessie gave birth to her first daughter in Fort Hood, TX, her second daughter in Russellville, AR, and her second son in Fort Ord, CA. After spending 20 years on Army bases throughout the U.S. and Germany, they returned to Russellville in 1965 to become a vital, active part of the community. They had the biggest garden on the block. Jessie loved feeding her birds.
Jessie loved her family, doting on her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
