Louise Hughie Robinson, 86, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on December 19, 2014. She was the daughter of Henry Hughie and Ruby Bethena Hall Hughie. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville. The funeral service will be held at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Rose Avenue Sunday, December 21st at 3 pm. Reverend Pennington of First Baptist Church will be officiating. Louise was born in Carrollton, Georgia on December 28th, 1927. She attended Smyrna Elementary School and then graduated from Mount Zion High School in Carrollton, Georgia. While in high school, she enjoyed playing on the basketball team. She was able to attend college by working as an assistant dietician at West Georgia College. She developed an interest in playing tennis while at West Georgia. As West Georgia was only a two year college, she transferred to the University of Georgia in Athens. While attending college she also worked for the Georgia Book mobile. She graduated from UGA with a degree in education. It was also in Athens where she also became a devoted fan of her beloved bulldogs. Louise was married to Dr. Clark Robinson on September 8, 1951; they were married 63 years. She supported him by teaching 5th grade at Bayville Elementary School when he began medical school in Augusta. They have two daughters Mary Beth Robinson Johnson, retired Flight attendant from Delta Airlines, and retired member of Douglasville City Council, and Tammy Jane Robinson, currently a family physician. While living in Douglasville over 51 years Louise became an avid golfer and was a charter member of West Pines Golf Club. She enjoyed bringing home the prize Turkey from some of her tournament wins. She also was a very competitive tennis player and her tennis team was able to achieve A level in Atlanta Lawn and Tennis Association (ALTA), after competing for many years. She also became an accomplished bowler and enjoyed bowling on several different leagues over the years. She also loved having a garden and growing tomatoes. She also kept up with her sports and loved pulling for the bulldogs, braves and falcons. Most of all, she enjoyed her friends. She loved playing sports with her friends and she looked forward to her weekly bridge games. She delighted in sharing her collections of dolls, radios, lunch boxes and record players with everyone. She loved going antique shopping, going to yard sales and having the thrill of finding treasures. An exhibit of some of her collections is on display at the Old Courthouse Museum in Douglasville. She had an infectious laugh and a generous heart. She loved raising her two children. She was a wonderful encourager and had a great sense of humor and loved people. She enjoyed life and it was reflected in some of her collectibles: she was truly a child at heart. She celebrated life and wanted everyone to remember the wonderment of childhood. Louise is survived by her husband and two daughters, along with her two sisters Dr. Mary H. Scott of Atlanta, and Dr. Betty H. Hamm of Augusta, and her brother Edwin Hughie and sister in laws Lucy Hughie of Douglasville and Frances Hughie of Villa Rica and many nieces and nephews. Louise is preceded in death by her other siblings, brother Harvey Hughie, sister Laurine Hughie Deal, and brother Cula T. Hughie. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 5 pm until 7 pm at the funeral home.
