Adolphus Aydelott Kneedler came to California in the 1850s from St. Louis, Missouri, with his parents, George W. and Tabitha Kneedler. They were living in Sacramento in 1860 and were in San Jose by 1870. Adolphus died on Dec. 29, 1874, at age 26 of "congestion of the lungs". According to the death certificate, he had been employed as a bell porter.
