Harold was born on April 10, 1955 in Onawa, Iowa, the only child of Darrell Cooper and Barbara (Blagg) Cooper Zastera.
Harold grew up in Onawa and graduated from West Monona High School in 1973. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University, then moved to Minneapolis, MN.
There he met and married Susan Burzinski of La Crosse, WI. They had their only daughter, Laura, then moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1986. Harold worked for Honeywell and Sandia National Laboratories where he was well-respected and successful in his career.
After retiring, Harold and Susan moved to La Crosse, WI in 2010, then returned to Albuquerque in 2019 to be closer to their daughter's family.
In his younger years, Harold enjoyed four-wheeling and played guitar in a country band. He was very involved with his daughter's soccer, traveling to tournaments, and becoming a high school referee.
After retirement, Harold enjoyed bowling, trap and skeet shooting, and playing cards. He was an audiophile, avid music lover, and collector of albums. Harold was loving, caring, had a unique sense of humor, and will be missed by many, especially his cat, Roxy.
Harold is survived by his former wife, Susan (Burzinski) Cooper, his daughter, Laura (Cooper) Johnson and her husband, Kurt Johnson, his two grandsons, Hadden and Cooper Johnson, all of Albuquerque, NM, his step-mother, Wanda (Van Houten) Cooper of Battle Creek, IA, his step-father, Bill Zastera of Omaha, NE, his former father-in-law, Robert Burzinski and former brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Jerue all of La Crosse, WI.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held in Albuquerque and a burial at the Onawa Cemetery at a later date.
