Harold grew up in Onawa and graduated from West Monona High School in 1973. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University, then moved to Minneapolis, MN.
There he met and married Susan Burzinski of La Crosse, WI. They had their only daughter, Laura, then moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1986. Harold worked for Honeywell and Sandia National Laboratories where he was well-respected and successful in his career.
