Dorothy Amy Marshall, age 88, passed away on January 23, 2021 in Houston, Texas. Born on October 3, 1932 in Waltham, Massachusetts, Growing up in Waltham, Dorothy was a member of the Girls Scouts and also the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She worked for Raytheon in the early 1950’s. There she met the love of her life. She was married to Arthur on April 12, 1953. After several moves in as many years, they settled in Houston, Texas in 1965. She was a member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal church for many years. She was the Sunday School Secretary where she rewrote the Pre-K and Kindergarten SS curriculum. She was also a member of the St. Thomas’ Alter Guild. Part of those duties included the training of the Junior Altar Guild. Dorothy was a very talented seamstress and she even had her own business, Dottie Dimple Dolls & Costumes. She made hundreds of Scottish Dance costume for the school children to wear in the various Scottish Festivals. Not only that but she made sure that the St. Thomas’ Drama Department had the costumes that they needed for the various plays. Her crowning glory was the dress for Queen Elizabeth that she designed herself. When there were no more costumes to be made, she started knitting Prayer Shawls and Chemo Caps. Overall, she made 100s of caps and over 135 Prayer Shawls. She loved making these and refused any monetary compensations of any kind. She kept detailed records of each Prayer Shawl that she knitted. There was always an extra one handy for anyone in need of comfort. The hundreds of Chemo Caps were sent to family, friends, and various hospitals and churches. She was never seen without her knitting bag. She kept knitting until her arthritis would not let her anymore. She was a devoted Christian, wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed down her love of God and family to those around her. She is preceded in death her husband of 57 years, Arthur Richard Marshall. She is survived by her seven children: Lou Anne Marshall (Driggs, Idaho), Arthur Richard Marshall, Jr. (Limington, Maine), Mary Jane Barrington (Somersworth, New Hampshire), Judith Lee Jones (Magnolia, Texas), James Gilbert Marshall (League City, Texas), Amy Elizabeth Zielinski (Missouri City, Texas), and D’Anne Marshall Stanton (Bellaire, Texas). She also leaves behind an amazing legacy of 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Mizebra, Vera, and the amazing staff of Favored Personal Care for the loving care they gave to our mother. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to The American Legend Legacy Scholarship Fund (https://www.legion.org/scholarships).
