August 10, 1926 - January 29, 2021

Grace Elizabeth Davis, age 94, died January 29, 2021 at Forrest Path, Lutheran Community Home, Seymour, Indiana. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at Voss & Sons Funeral Service in Seymour, with visitation one hour prior.

Born in the bustling city of Wheeling, West Virginia, to Clarence E. Karcher and Millie Jane (Lane) Karcher on August 10, 1926, she was baptized at the age of 13 in the First Baptist Church in Wheeling. Growing up in Wheeling, she lived in a multi-ethnic environment. She always said, "Everyone was from someplace else", and never thought a thing about going to school with first generation immigrants from Syria, Italy, and Greece to name a few. Along with her children, she maintained a connection with her beloved homeplace throughout her lifetime, even attending her high school class's final 65th reunion.

Grace was employed in office work beginning in high school. As a senior in high school, she was recommended by Wheeling High School for office work in Washington D.C. during WWII, but her father refused for safety reasons. In Wheeling, she worked in the offices of Gee Electric and Wheeling Foundry.

In Seymour, she worked at Sears downtown for 11 years, (semi) retired in 1995 after 11 years from Ben Franklin Distribution Center in Accounts Receivable and worked part-time at JC Penney for six years until retiring, again, in 2006.

Grace was a member of First United Methodist Church in Seymour.

A private, yet amicable woman, she maintained a life-long, long distance friendships with childhood friends. Grace loved working in her flower gardens, and helped maintain a vegetable garden, canning in the fall with her husband. She always looked forward to seeing her grandchildren, and in later years, great-grandchildren. Her favorite saying was, "If you can say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Married to Robert F. "Bob" Davis on March 12, 1948, in Wheeling, West Virginia, he preceded her in death May 10, 2006. She will be interred with her husband in Riverview Cemetery, with her husband of 58 years. Also preceding her death were her youngest daughter, Janet Lynn (Davis) Graves; her sister, Helen V. (Karcher) Flaherty, CA.; brothers Ralph K. Karcher, MD; Philip L. Karcher, WV; and Charles L. Karcher, CA; and her parents, Clarence E. and Millie Jane (Lane) Karcher. Grace was the last of her generation in the entire Karcher family.

Surviving Grace are her sons, Robert F. "Bob" Davis Jr. (Patty), and Alan P. Davis (Sara), her daughter, Rhonda L. (David) Earley; 8 grandchildren, Allison (Earley) Cramer (Chris), Skylar Earley (Libby), Alex Davis (Sabrina), Trevor Davis, Elesse Davis, Summer (Graves) Marks (Ben), Jordyn Graves (Michael Mills), Matthew Graves, and 8 great-grandchildren.
