MARY'S OBITUARY
Mary passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Windsor Manor in Shenandoah surrounded by her loving family.

Memorials are currently being established.

Mary Lucille (Broughton) Putnam was born January 24 1931 in Riverton Iowa.

She was the youngest child of Wiley Ellis Broughton and Bertha Frank (Irwin) Broughton.

Mary went to school in Riverton until her junior high years. Her parents were both employed by Henry Field’s Seed and Nursery and they moved to Shenandoah where Mary attended Shenandoah High School.

Mary married Jack E. Putnam October 6, 1948. The first year of their marriage they lived in Tacoma, WA where Jack was stationed. They moved back to Shenandoah in 1949 and lived there most of the rest of their lives.

Mary was a waitress at various restaurants in Shenandoah. She also worked at Henry Field’s and for Lewis Cleaners. She was a member of First Christian Church in Shenandoah and attended services there nearly every Sunday.

Mary loved to sew and crochet. She was always creating something to share with someone! She also developed a love of reading. Mary didn’t really care to read for pleasure when she was younger, but a dear friend recommended a series of books to her later in life and she found that it was something she loved as much as sewing and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Bertha Broughton, her husband, Jack E. Putnam, mother-in-law, Marie Putnam, her brother-in-law, Robert M. Putnan, and her niece Jennifer Utecht.

She is survived by her sister Marjorie McQueen of Shenandoah; brother Donald Broughton of San Antonio, TX; daughter Brenda Franks and husband Randy of Essex; sons Bob Putnam and wife Cassandra of Wahoo, NE and Steve Putnam of Essex; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a great many friends.
