James Raymond Hammock, Jr. 80, of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Columbus Hospice House.


Funeral Services with Fireman Honors will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church 5350 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, Georgia 31904 with Rev. Paul Thomas officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 Am at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga. 31907. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, we encourage everyone to make the best decisions to remain safe. If anyone wishes to attend the visitation or funeral service, please remember to remain 6 feet apart from those not in your household and wear personal protective equipment.


Mr. Hammock was born September 25, 1940 in Warren County, Georgia son of the late James Raymond Hammock, Sr. and Eva Hubbard Hammock. He worked for over 30 years with the Columbus Fire and EMS Department retiring as the Fire Marshall. After his retirement Mr. Hammock worked for Fuller Fire and Safety, Inc. and was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God. Mr. Hammock was a well know coach in the community touching so many lives thru football and baseball. He will be missed by all that knew him.


Other than his parents, Mr. Hammock was preceded in death by his brothers, Horace Hammock, James Hammock and his sister Martha Reed.


Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sandra Torbert Hammock, children, Richard Hammock of Columbus, Georgia and Rodney Hammock of Phenix City, Alabama, brother, Robert Hammock of Columbus, Georgia and Edna Hammock of Fortson, Georgia, two grandchildren, Austin Hammock and Autumn Hammock.
