Sally J. (Puffer) DeWitt 2021
Our beloved mother, Sally J. (Puffer) DeWitt, 92, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021 in Fairhaven Christian Home. Sally was born in Rockford, the daughter of Robert and Grace (Newman) Puffer. Sally graduated from East High School, class of 1946. She married Richard S. DeWitt in 1952 who predeceased her in 2005. Sally worked at American Insurance Company for several years prior to raising three children and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Music was very much an important part of her life and a comfort to her. Sally was an accomplished pianist who loved to play Christmas carols, hymns, and classical music. She loved card games and was an avid cribbage player always ready for a challenge. Holiday seasons were her favorite time of the year decorating and being with family and friends. Sally loved baking Christmas cookies and would always provide a plate full to anyone she would visit with.
Survivors include her children, Jennifer (Alan) Soderberg and Paul (Vickie) DeWitt; grandchildren, Randy Soderberg, Ryan (Kim) Soderberg, Morgan Barrickman and Christopher Barrickman; great-grandchildren, Logan and Gracie Soderberg and dear friend, Janice Asprooth. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Richard; daughter, Carol Barrickman; sister, Marilyn Moore; brother-in-law, Lewis Moore and her cherished lifelong friend, Betty Asprooth.
A very warm and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fairhaven who cared so compassionately for Sally.
