Christine Williams Shepherd was born October 7, 1938 to parents Charlie Williams and Louisa (Sibley) Williams in Rusk County TX. Christine accepted Christ at an early age, attended school in Rusk County, and later united in marriage with Robert Lee Shepherd on February 15, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd welcomed their daughter, Ruby Nell, on September 23, 1955 and settled into family life with him working as a mechanical engineer for the Texas Railroad Commission and her as a homemaker. Mrs. Shepherd was one of the first black women to work for the Kilgore Independent School District, serving in the Food Services department. She later retired to help raise their grandchildren.

She was known for her loving and nurturing personality and served as a mother figure to many throughout her life. Her greatest joy was her family, and that joy illuminated every place she visited. Mrs. Shepherd served on the Mission and Deaconess boards at St. John Baptist Church in Steber Grove for many years. She was preceded in death by her daughter in 2013, and her husband in 2014.

She departed her earthly body Wednesday January 27, 2021 and leaves beloved family to cherish her memory, including her sisters; Charlean Dudley, Frances Henson, Geneva Taylor (Cecil), and a special niece, Yemaya Taylor Daniels. She also leaves her granddaughter Camellia “Christie” Prentice, grandson Kevin Sheppard (Umyia), great grandchildren Christopher & Samuel Manns, Ke’Von, Kelaigha, Kerrigen, & Kamren Sheppard, Aden Portley, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends
