James "Jim" "Sonny" Gunn

James “Jim” “Sonny” Gunn (respectively known as a true son of a Gunn) was born on May 6, 1943 and left for his eternal home on January 26, 2021 at the age of 77.
The family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church in Argo, Alabama on Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Music to be provided by Johnny Kilgore.
Graveside service will be on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery in Gardendale, Alabama at 3:00 PM with Rev. Mike Shaw and James Langston officiating. Randy Underwood will be playing the bagpipes for the graveside.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Johnson Gunn; two sons, Steve Gunn (Cathy) and Michael Gunn; grandchildren, Jackson, Candace (Jacob), Cari, Ashley; sisters, Carolyn Davis and Vickie Smith and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Willie Mae Gunn and his sisters, Mary McGee and Bobbie Odom.
He served in the US Navy on the SS Oriskany. He was a retired Birmingham Firefighter with 25 years of service and was employed with Sears for 20 years as a service maintenance specialist.
He was known for his love for his family and the Lord. He was always willing to help out his friends and neighbors and was known for his sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 434, Trussville, Alabama 35173 or the charity of your choice.
God’s word tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. We find peace and comfort knowing that Sonny Gunn is with his Heavenly Father walking the streets of gold.
I accordance with the state mandated health order, guests are kindly asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
