Clifford Jackson, 90, of Round Oak, Jones County, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
Graveside services will be held at Sunshine United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Tommy Martin officiating. The family will greet friends with social distancing Friday, September 11, 2020, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, in Hart’s Jones County Chapel. Everyone is asked to please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunshine UMC or to Sunshine UMC Cemetery Fund.
Cliff was born August 22, 1930 to the late Molden and Maude Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Lois Jackson; two sons, Michael Jackson, Ronald “Bubba” Jackson (Cora); grandchildren, Douglas Jackson, Abigail Jackson, Cliff Jackson; great grandchildren; Hannah Jackson, Ava Jackson; Sisters, Laverne Adams, Maudine Faxon, Martha Linden; sister-n-laws, Pete Tillman, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Jackson; four sisters, Estelle Tillman, Hyacinth Nabors, Wynette Morgan, and Blanche Williams; brother-n-laws that were more like brothers, Luke McElheney and Dooley Tillman.
At the ages of 17 and 18, Cliff and Mary Lois ran away together to get married and lived apart for several days to keep it a secret, until the news finally spread throughout the small town. Together, they remodeled an old schoolhouse and turned it into a home.
Cliff was a people person and loved to talk; when he wasn’t talking, he was whistling. He was an active member of the Gray Masonic Lodge for thirty years, and a member of the Woodmen of The World, Round Oak Chapter. Cliff was a longtime member of Sunshine United Methodist Church in Round Oak.
He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Double Branch and Little Beaver hunting clubs where he and his family spent much of their time. He would often be found sitting around the campfire, playing his guitar and singing old country songs. He retired from Robins Air Force Base, where he was a civil engineering planner for forty years.
Cliff was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all who knew him.
