Hannah Chapman may have been a descendant of the Chapman family that settled in Wrightstown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania about 1684. Benjamin Chapman, sheriff of Bucks County 1756-1758, may have been her father. (She named her last son Benjamin.)
Hannah Chapman married March 5, 1774 to Andrew Rose; 9 children: Elizabeth "Betsy", Ephriam, Jacob, Andrew, James, Mary "Polly", Chapman, Celia, and Benjamin Rose.

Hannah's husband Andrew Rose took the Oath of Allegiance on January 2, 1778 when a resident of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was an iron worker by trade and was employed at Durham furnace in Bucks County, PA from about 1780 until about 1788. Family tradition states he fought in the battle of Monmouth (in New Jersey) during the Revolutionary War, after which he made cannon balls and bullets for the Colonial Army. His descendants are eligible for DAR and SAR membership.

Andrew Rose died in 1817 (will dated January 21, 1815, probated August 16, 1817). He was buried in United Presbyterian Church Cemetery on his own farm in Pine Township, Mercer county, Pennsylvania. Later the church was moved to Wolf Creek Township, and the old cemetery was lost to the farmer's plow.

When Hannah Chapman Rose died in 1840, she was living with her daughter Polly McKinley (grandmother of President William McKinley) in Crawford County, Ohio. The cemetery is a few miles north of Bucyrus, Ohio.

Note: President McKinley has two FAG listings: #699 & #69683142.
