TOMMY'S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
Tommy Raymond Green, Age 89, was welcomed into Jesusโ€™s waiting arms in heaven on January 26th 2021. Tommy was born to Colonel Goliath and Lula Tarpley Green on December 19, 1931 in Wister, OK. He married his most beloved wife Thelma Kathryn Redwing in VanBuren, AR on January 19, 1952. After working at various auto mechanic jobs, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953 during the Korean War. Tommy was stationed at Smoky Hill Air Force Base in Salina, KS and was deployed to the United Kingdom as an aircraft mechanic. During his service two daughters were born at Smoky Hill Air Force Base Hospital, Karen Elaine Green Robinson and Linda Kay Green Kifer. After his honorable discharge, Tommy, Thelma, and daughters moved to Wilburton, OK (Thelmaโ€™s Birthplace) to attend Eastern State Collage on the G.I. Bill. Upon graduation the family moved to Durant, Oklahoma so Tommy could continue his education where he earned a BS Degree in Sociology. Son Steven Lewis Green was born during Tommyโ€™s studies. Moving his family to Bethany, OK, Tommy began a twenty-eight year career at what was then Aero Commander (later known as Gulfstream and then General Dynamics.) Working on advanced experimental aircraft. Thelma retired shortly after his retirement. During his working years the family moved to Yukon, OK. In the summer of 1965, all three children graduated from Yukon High School. Tommy and Thelma were founding members of the Yukon Church / Southern Baptist. They were loyal members until their deaths. Besides church activities, Tom and Thelma loved spending time with children, grandchildren, and their great grandchildren. They loved their second home and acreage in Wilburton, OK. There they socialized with Thelmaโ€™s sisters and brothers. Other activities were boating, fishing, bird watching, and traveling. They attended their kids and grandkids baseball, football, basketball and soccer games. Thelma loved to shop at garage sales and estate sales and Tommy loved being her driver. He would take her wherever she wanted to go! He also loved to โ€œtinkerโ€ on cars and engines.
