Born Doris Doreatha Harris to the late Viola Hill and Nathan Harris on June 1, 1934 in Glenwood, Florida. Doris moved to Daytona Beach at the age of three. She was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E from a young child until her death. There she served on the choir. She attended local schools graduating from Campbell Street High School in 1952. She attended Bethune-Cookman University pursuing a degree in Education. She never taught but retired from Volusia County schools in 1996. She worked seventeen years for Halifax Medical Center and Ormond Memorial Hospital. However, most will remember her from Zayres.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Harris; son, Armin Gray; granddaughter, Tanesia Gray and grandson, Larry Gadson-Yarbrough. She leaves behind her eldest son, Vanhise (Diane) Gray; son, Vincent (Sassy) Brown; daughters, Denise Gray-Welters and Tammy Gray; nephew, Stanley (Valerie) Harris; niece, Sheila (Roy) Turner; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of friends and numerous other family members.
