Patricia A. Fletcher
December 16, 1943 - January 18, 2021

The world lost a special person on January 18, 2021. Our Mother never graduated High School but later received her G.E.D. and then went on to earn her Bachelor's degree. Graduating with honors, and making the Dean's list for her academic achievement at Texas A&M, formerly East Texas State University. She used her degree to teach at Terrell Middle School. One memory that defines my Mother is when a group of local busy bodies came to our house to confront our Mom about having a black peer in our home. Mom said something to the effect of, "Please don't think I invited her to my home because she is black. I invited her because she is a friend, and intelligent; and please don't think I'm throwing you out because you are white, I'm throwing you out because you are ignorant." That describes how I was brought up. Our Mother hated people who put on airs, which of course made our relationship touchy. She would always ask why I needed a grand entrance, but thanks to her I toned it down and stopped using a confetti cannon everytime I entered a room. Our Mom and Dad believed in respect of your elders and brought us up to be dedicated to our family. Though we didn't attend church, our family lived more like Children of God, then many church attendee's. Which is largely due to their strength of character and family.

Patricia Fletcher was born to Selita Baxter and Doyle Baxter on December 16, 1943 in Dallas, Texas. On December 16, 1960 Patricia was married to Melvin W. Fletcher. They remained married for 50 years, until his death in 2011. Patricia is preceded in death by her Husband, Melvin Fletcher; Mother, Selita Reid; Father, Doyle Baxter; Brother, William Baxter. She is survived by Daughter, Angela Whitlock. Who was a devoted Caretaker to not only her mother, but to her father as well. Son, Michael Fletcher and youngest Daughter, Selita Jobe. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild, Kayden, who she adored in her last days.
