Pvt. Nathan Z. Thacker of Greenbrier, Ark. attended Guy-Perkins High School and later earned his General Educational Development. The third child of seven he enlisted in the Army in April 2007 and completed his training at Fort Benning, Ga., arriving at Fort Drum the following August. Even after he got his orders that he was going to Iraq, he felt good about his enlistment. He had only been in the country for two weeks before his death. His honors include the Purple Heart. He is survived by his parents and grandfather as well as his nieces and nephews whom he enjoyed spending time with. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Thacker and uncle, Roy Thacker. Nate died in Kirkuk, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle at age 18.
