Hon. H. C. Drew, representing the parish of Calcasieu, was born in the State of Main, in 1838, and was educated in the public schools of his native State. In 1859 he removed to Texas, and from there to Louisiana, in 1868, settling in Lake Charles, where he is one of the most enterprising and progressive citizens. He is a member of the firm of Drew & Powell, lumber manufacturers.

Mr Drew is President of the Calcasieu Bank. at Lake Charles. He is interested to a large extent in rice planting and is one of the projectors of the Choupique Canal, which will be used to irrigate thousands of large rice farms in that section.

Mr. Drew has done much to induce immigration to his section of the State, and, with the assistance of other citizens of his parish, they have been highly successful.

He worked hard for a poll tax, and assisted Mr. Pujo greatly in securing another member of the Legislature for his parish. He is a member of the Committees on Public Education, on Taxation, Equalization and Exemptions, as well as that on Corporate Rights."
