Don “Tortuga” Barnes, 82, of Rule, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford, TX.

Don was born July 7, 1938 in Rule, TX to William and Tommie Faye Barnes. He moved to Casa Grande, Arizona as a teenager. Don moved to Houston as a young adult to begin his career as a self-employed businessman, establishing Texas Roof Masters. Don owned and operated his roofing business until he retired in 1988. Don relocated to Cedar Park, TX where he lived until 2003, when he returned to Rule, TX.

Don was an avid motorcycle rider, attending a multitude of bike rallies where he won several 1st place trophies. Don’s love and passion for riding was evident in the many trips he and biker buddies embarked upon around the country, but his favorite trips were to Ruidoso, New Mexico. Don had a deep love for his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

He is survived by his former spouse, Saundra Hitchcock of Mesa, AZ, 5 children, Vickie Newton of Mesa, AZ, Kevin Barnes and wife Miriam of Hamlin, TX, Rhonda Herrera and partner Julie Schlechter of Mesa, AZ., Robin Barnes of Mesa, AZ, and Leslie Burns of Rule, TX, 3 grandchildren: Danny Moreno of Mesa, AZ, Stephani Moreno of Queen Creek, AZ, and Wesley Barnes of Mesa, AZ, 3 great grandchildren, Julian and Jaren Molina of Queen Creek, AZ and Ella Prak of Hamlin, TX.
