Fannie Perdue Ayers, 85, of Union Hall (Smith Mountain Lake), died Friday, October 12, 2007 at Franklin Health Care Center. She was born July 7, 1922 a daughter of the late Jim and Gillie Perdue. Fannie was employed with MW Manufacturing for 36 years and was a member of Doe Run Christian Church. Her heart and door were always open and there was a place at her table for everyone. She never met a stranger. One Sunday we could not find her, later she showed up from a balloon ride with a Balloonist that happen to fly over Smith Mountain Lake and had asked her if she would like a ride, probably not expecting her to be the adventurer that she was. Fannie was sometimes known as the Ceramic Lady or the Quilt Maker. She designed and made many quilts, donating them as a fund raiser for the rescue squad. Fannie and her late husband George were lifetime members of Glade Hill Rescue Squad. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years George W. Ayers; a beloved and faithful brother, Claude (Tom) Perdue; and an infant sister, Mattie Perdue; her two very special pets, Soot and Jill. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved foster son, Dickie Perdue and wife Brenda; their children, Dewey Archer, Rebecca Barnwell and Troy Dalton; her sisters-in-law and lifelong friends, Ruth Perdue and Mattie Smith; her brother-in-law and faithful friend, Jim Ayers; her special nieces and their family, Janet and Leon Pugh and children, Steve and Lori, Patsy and Bob Wingfield and daughter Sarah, Karen Young and Donald Mabry.
