Corey was born May 10, 1970, in Memphis TN. He was the second of three children born to the union of Bennie and Lelia Nelson. Corey was the baby brother to Cedric and a loving big brother to Heather.
Corey was a proud graduate of the 1989 Class of Raleigh Egypt High School. He received his B.A. of Science in Sociology from Tennessee State University and a Master of Science in Human Resource from Webster University. Corey’s spiritual gift from God was “serving”. He displayed service daily through his profession as a social worker where he worked dutifully at the Shelby County Health Department. Corey was a beloved co-worker, a strong family man, a lover of life, and a friend to all. Corey never met a stranger and was loved by many near and far. Corey was a dedicated husband, adoring father, and affectionate uncle and friend. Corey was a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan and supported both Raleigh Egypt High School and Tennessee State University until his death. Corey leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Melanie Nelson, and son, Carter Nelson; parents, Bennie and Lelia Nelson; loving siblings, Cedric (Renee) Nelson, Heather (Daniel) Heaston; nieces and nephews, Cameron (Portia) Nelson, Dylan Heaston, Hannah Heaston, Cortney Nelson, and Camryn Nelson along with a host of beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
