Lynn Ellis “Bill” Gray Jr, 70, of Vassar, died Tuesday evening, January 19, 2021 at his residence. He was born July 21, 1950 in Saginaw, son of the late Lynn E. and Catherine D. (Thomas) Gray Sr. Bill was raised in Vassar, attended Vassar Public Schools, and graduated from Vassar High School in 1968. He spent his life farming on the Centennial Farm. On April 7, 1973 he married the former Linda K. Budzier in Dryden, Michigan. She survives him. Bill served his community on the Vassar Township Board and the Tuscola County Farm Bureau Board for nine years. He was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville since 1973 and held various offices in the church. One of his pastimes was cutting wood in the wintertime. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer and showing cows at the county fair. His favorite quote was “We must Endeavor to Persevere. We will not be defeated”.
Surviving besides his wife Linda are his daughters, Lisa K. Gray and special friend, Mark Trost of Pigeon, Christy M. Kring and her husband Douglas of Spring Arbor, Michelle L. Gray of Murray, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kyle R. Briggs, Kayla M. Kring, and Zachary D. Kring. Also surviving is his sister, Pam Elliott and her husband Don of Flint. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Mardean and Mark Armentrout.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. Reverend Wesley Gillaspie will officiate with private family committal service to follow in the St. Michael’s Cemetery. Lynn’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street in Reese on Monday from 3-7 p.m. There will be no calling hours at the church before the service.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the visitation must be limited to 25 guests at a time. Masks are required for both the visitation and service and individuals are asked to follow social distancing practices.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.
