Brother to Ethel Allen, Thomas Allen (aka Arvella Gray) and Clara Allen ; Laura Fletcher and Dora Fletcher
Allen eventually settled in California, working as a Porter for the Pullman Company. In 1937, Pullman signed a labor contract with the Union of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (established 1925), the first African-American union to sign a labor contract with a major corporation.
He married Fredna Mae Hadley in Italy, Texas on September 9, 1943
He is father of Elmerine Allen and William Thomas Allen
