Elsie Fern Thompson a loving wife, mother, grandmother "Meme" and great-grandmother, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Fern was born April 14, 1928, to Harrison and Alta Rose in Oklahoma City, Okla. At a very young age Fern and her family moved to Chowchilla, Calif. She graduated from high school in 1947 and moved to San Francisco, Calif., with her friend, Maudie to work as a telephone operator. In 1948, she met the love of her life, a sailor named Bill Thompson. They married in 1949 in Merced, Calif. and later had a son named Dale on her 22nd birthday. In 1950, Fern and Bill moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and had three daughters, Linda, Patsy and Ramona. The family moved to Fort Worth in 1963 and have remained there since.

Fern worked for Montgomery Wards in the catalog department for 21 years but as a devoted mother her main focus was raising her four children. She was a champion 42 player, an avid 49ers and Yankees fan and very much enjoyed spending time outside bird-watching. After retirement Fern and Bill enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Fern and Bill were devout Christians and spent many years as active members of Trinity Baptist Church in River Oaks, Texas.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, Bill; and grandson, Jeffrey.

Survivors: Children, Dale Thompson and wife, LouAnn, Linda Hopper and husband, Don, Pat Alexander and husband, Jim and Ramona Stark and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Christopher, Neil, Wesley, Carolyn, Alan, Stephanie and Michael; as well as her 14 great-grandchildren.
