He was predeceased by his wife Barb. He is survived by his sons, Dean Bates, Kevin Bates and Brian (Tonya) Bates; daughter Tonya (Martin) Bates Madden; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Edward served his country through the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1955. He had been active with the American Legion. He was retired from the New York State Dept. of Public Works where he served as a highway foreman.
