Phelps/Macedon: Passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the age of 85. He was born on September 25, 1935 to the late Jessie and Irene "Wheeler" Bates in Savannah, NY. He was predeceased by his wife Barb. He is survived by his sons, Dean Bates, Kevin Bates and Brian (Tonya) Bates; daughter Tonya (Martin) Bates Madden; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Edward served his country through the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1955. He had been active with the American Legion. He was retired from the New York State Dept. of Public Works where he served as a highway foreman.
