George Grant 88 of the Chesapeake Community in Fairmont, WV departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday January 25, 2021 at Genesis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

George was the son of the late Bill Grant and Annie Lee Miles Ingram, Husband of the late Leatha and Georgia Grant, Father of the late Julie Owolabi, Debbie and Shirley Grant, and Brother of the late Bernice and (James) Bridges,

George was born on March 10, 1932 in Haynesville, Alabama. He obtained his education at Lincoln High School in Birmingham Alabama and worked as a Florist Helper. On March 6, 1953 in Montgomery, Alabama George was enlisted in the United States Army and served three years before being honorably discharged on June 21, 1956 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. George relocated to Chicago Illinois and worked for the United States Postal Service. In 1960, He Attended Chicago Public School Department of Vocational Education, completing training and receiving certification for auto mechanics on June 22, 1960. He traveled to Detroit Michigan and worked as a mechanic for General Motors and the Chevrolet Plant for many years before moving to Fairmont, WV. He was employed for the Department of Natural Resources for the state of West, Virginia for 16 years and 6 months and retired in 1995. After retirement he enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, traveling, and making blues tapes until he began working as a crossing Guard For Miller Jr. High and Jayenne Elementary School, he later became ill and had to give up his job as a crossing guard. He loved the students, their parents, the teachers, and his colleagues. George was loved and received help from his two nieces Linda Weeks and Edith Clay as well as his nephew and great nephew, James Weeks, and Melvin Waites.

George gave his life to Christ and attended church for a short time at Welcome Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Paul Mitchell. When he became further ill, he went to live with his niece, Annie Rollins and she cared for him as long as she could before being placed into Genesis Rehabilitation Center where he received excellent care, regular visits, phone calls, and zoom meetings from his niece Linda Weeks and great nephew Melvin Waites. George stated at one time, although he had been stubborn and mean at times in his life, he loves his family and appreciates all that they have done for him. He was well cared for and he loved and appreciated the workers at the nursing home, as well as received loved from them.

George leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, Two daughters, Diane Grant Hathaway and Denise Grant of Calumet City, Illinois: two sons Jerome Grant of Chicago, Illinois, and George Anthony White of Fairmont, WV; His step Mother, Laura Lee Grant of Haynesville, Alabama; Four brothers John Robinson of Inkster, Michigan, John Grant of Haynesville, Alabama, Eddie Lee Grant of Haynesville, Alabama, and Willie Lee Grant of Charleston, South Carolina; One step brother, James Allen Smith of Haynesville, Alabama; six sister Laura Faye Malcolm of Roosevelt, New York, Matilda, and Doris Grant Thomas of Haynesville, Alabama, Geraldine Sutton of Selma, Alabama, Anita Louise, and (Joe River) of Millbrook, Alabama, and Mary Crenshaw of Detroit, Michigan; One step sister, Rosie Dunklin of Selma, Alabama A special Friend Dorothy Mae Chisolm of Birmingham. Alabama; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Agape Life Ministries 410 Morgantown Avenue Fairmont where the Pastors are Pastor Lonnie Leo and Regina Riley.

Viewing will begin at 10:00 A.M. till 11:00 A.M. at the church. Funeral Services for the family will follow at 11:00 A.M. Officiated by his niece Rev. Phyllis Regina Clay and his great nephew Rev. Melvin D. Waites will be Eulogizing his service.

Due to COVID-19 the funeral service will be for Family ONLY and all family who attend are asked to wear a mask and take proper precautions. For all who want to come and view the body, you will be escorted in the rear Entrance and escorted out the front side door. Your temperature will be read at the door, and you will be asked to sanitize your hands and wear a mask. Please follow instructions of the ushers.

Interment will be at the West Virginian National Cemetery 42 Veterans Memorial Lane Grafton, WV.
