Melissa Castro Santos passed away on Saturday, July 18th at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City after a nine-year battle with multiple myeloma.

Born in Beacon, NY on April 24, 1971 and raised in Newburgh, NY, she resided on Parrott Street in Cold Spring, NY.

Melissa, a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, was retired from her work as a correctional officer at Downstate Correctional Facility. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Loretto parish in Cold Spring.

Melissa was a very well-known person in her town. She Always had a smile on her face no matter what challenges she was facing. Always kind and caring to anyone that she came across and made sure they left with a smile on their face. No matter what she was going through, Melissa always put others needs before her own. She was a great listener and incredibly supportive person.

Melissa was always there to guide, help, and support her children through everything. If she couldn’t attend one of her children’s sports games, she would be there on Facetime supporting and cheering from afar. She never let her cancer define who she was. She was a very inspiring, strong woman. Throughout her journey, Melissa has impacted many in ways that no one could have ever imagined. She left a huge mark on her community and her beautiful smile will be remembered by many, especially her children.

Melissa enjoyed being a wife to her husband, Darrin Santos, who predeceased her earlier this year. She loved being a mother to her two sons, Darrin and Daniel, and her daughter, Mikayla.

Melissa is also survived by her mother, Elba Castro and Neil Martin, and her two brothers Marcelo Castro and Eduardo Martin.

Visitation will be held on Thursday July 23, 2020 from 5-8 pm at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott Street, Cold Spring. A Graveside Service will held on Friday July 24, 2020 at 11:00am
