July 20, 1951 - January 25, 2021

Susie "Ginger" Powell finally met her sweet Savior and found complete healing on Monday,
January 25, 2021. She was born in Graceville, Florida on July 20, 1952 as the second youngest
of six children to Julius Slater and Reba Evelyn (Brock) Slater. She graduated from Graceville
Highschool in 1969, then attended Chipola College and resided in Tallahassee, Florida. She
moved to Pensacola to attend Pensacola Junior College where she graduated from Dental
Hygiene school in 1973 and worked as a hygienist in the Pensacola area for 40 years. After her
salvation and baptism in August of 1977, she became a member of Olive Baptist Church
where she devoted herself to the children's ministry by teaching Sunday School, Choir and
working in the nursery.
Her servant's heart constantly poured into the lives of others loyally serving in so many ways
just like her biblical heroine, Ruth. She lived by example her personal life goal of raising
responsible, Godly children who will be able to contribute to other's lives. She loved spending
time with family more than anything and chose to be involved in every aspect of the lives of her
children and grandchildren. She attended every baseball game, soccer game, basketball game,
track meet, school event, dance and piano recitals, and gymnastics meets. Not only her
children and grandchildren, but her brothers and sisters knew her tender care and passion to
meet their needs. The term family reached far beyond blood as she was a mother, sister and
"Ginger" to so many, including the precious Vitas nurses that cared for her until her healing was
complete.
The words of Psalms beautifully describe her final days of ministry on this earth.
"Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this
new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me…...Though my heart and flesh
may fail, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
She shared so many words of wisdom, some of which were: "Seek God first and then you will
be equipped to make sound decisions", "Be honest with yourself," and "Be yourself, never
pretend to know everything."
She is preceded in death by her mother Reba Evelyn Slater, her father Julius Slater, her sister
Evelyn Rose. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Danny Powell, her daughters
Danielle (Troy) Fryman, Allison (Brian) Webster, and Bethany Powell. She was "Ginger" to her
eight grandchildren Jadon Fryman, Jace Fryman, Desi Fryman, Tony Fryman, Camden Beaty,
Callen Beaty, Julia Webster, Jack Webster and many more who she considered to be her very
own. She is survived by her 4 siblings Tommy Slater, Jim Slater, Nell Bush, and Louie Slater
and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Faith Chapel South on Wednesday, January 27 from 5:00 pm to 7:00
pm. A service to celebrate her healing will be held at Olive Baptist Church on Thursday,
January 28 with a visitation at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am and burial following at Bayview
Cemetery on Scenic Highway.
In lieu of flowers, the family would love for you to make a contribution to any ministry that
reaches the needs of children.
Active pallbearers will be Troy Fryman, Jadon Fryman, Jace Fryman, Tony Fryman, Camden
Beaty, Brian Webster and Todd Androsko. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Tindell Webster
