Graveside services for Clifton Dane Smith, age 59, of Morton, Texas, will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Morton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held February 1, 2021 from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm at Ellis Funeral Home in Morton. The family will hold a private visitation from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.

Dane passed away in Morton on January 21, 2021. He was born to Vester & Irene Smith on January 25th, 1961 in Brownfield, TX.

Along with his brother and two sisters, he grew up in Loop, TX where he graduated high school in 1978. He attended Texas Tech University for two years with aspirations of becoming a Doctor, but his loyalty to his father and grandfather brought him back home, where he farmed from 1980-1998. In 1982, Dane met the love of his life, Pamela Chaney. They were married on June 22, 1983 and had two sons and one daughter. From 1989-1998, Dane served the community of Loop as a volunteer with the fire department and Emergency Medical Service. He earned his paramedic certification in the mid-1980s, becoming one of the first medics in the area. He became the director of Seagraves EMS in 1998. While supporting his family, Dane earned his Associate of Science degree from South Plains College in 2002. During his time at SPC, Dane was the recipient of Outstanding Student in Biology, Outstanding Student in Anatomy & Physiology, and the Psychology of Personality award. Dane was accepted to the Texas Tech Physician Assistant program in 2004 and graduated with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree in 2006. With the desire to bring healthcare to rural areas, Dane started the Seagraves Family Clinic with Dr. George Manning in 2007 where it operated until 2009. For the last fourteen years of his life, Dane worked at Cochran Memorial Hospital in Morton, TX, where he touched so many with his unparalleled kindness, compassion and generosity. He was known for his big heart. Dane was a man with a great desire for helping people, a trait he exemplified until the end.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Irene Smith, who passed away on November 12, 2019.

Dane is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pamela Smith; sons Brandon and Sheldon Smith; daughter and husband Kristen and Josh Gustafson; grandchildren Jacelyn Seefeld, Embry Gustafson, and Trislyn Smith; his father and wife, Vester and Sadie Smith; brother and wife Timmy and Jackie Smith; sister Brenda Smith; sister and husband Michille and Dallas O’Brien; and many more cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
