ELLIS MARTIN OBITUARY
Ellis P. Martin. On January 29, 2016, Ellis passed away peacefully at his home. Born July 2, 1927 in Chambersburg, Ellis was the son of the late Clyde W. Martin & Ella B. (Heckman) Martin. Ellis married Mamie L. Metcalfe on February 20, 1948.
Ellis led a long and very satisfied life and his family was the joy of his life. He was a dairy farmer for 20 years and drove school bus for the Chambersburg School district for 14 years. He was tax collector of Guilford Township from 1966 to 1978. In July of 1969, Ellis established the Ellis P. Martin Insurance Agency and retired in September 1990.
He enjoyed square dancing in his earlier years and belonged to the Whirley Birds, Curley Cues, & Grand Squared dance clubs. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Chambersburg for 25 years and also a life member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Co. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Marion, PA for many years and served on church council for 12 years and was council secretary for 6 years.
Ellis & his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV and traveled to all 50 states of the USA, Canada, Mexico, and also traveled abroad. Ellis belonged to several camping clubs both in PA and FL. He wintered in Florida for 26 years, spending time in West Palm Beach, Naples, and most recently in Arcadia Florida. Ellis enjoyed his retirement very much and was always very active. While in West Palm Beach he performed as a supernumerary with the Palm Beach Opera for 5 years. Ellis enjoyed cooking and provided many meals for neighbors and special activities in the RV Resorts he stayed in. He made friends wherever he went and many became like family.
