Barbara Marie James
February 10, 1957 - January 10, 2021
Barbara (Griego) James of Visalia, California passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the young age of 63. Barbara was born on February 10, 1957 in Anchorage, Alaska. She is preceded in death by her daughter Marie Johnson, parents David and Mary Griego, brother Don Griego and sister Rosanne Griego Kincaid.
Barbara retired from Visalia Unified School District in July, 2020 after 25 years of service. She was looking forward to traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandbabies.
She was loved by all and affectionately known as "Mama Barb" by so many. Barbara enjoyed spending time in Morro Bay, poolside with her husband, drinking wine with her daughter and being a Grammy, her favorite title to her grandchildren.
Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering strength and faith in the Lord. Her love for Him never faltered regardless of the struggles and obstacles she endured throughout her life. Even after her cancer diagnosis six months ago, her faith continued to grow stronger. She never complained or spoke negatively about her situation and always managed to share a warm smile and comforting words of reassurance that everything would be okay no matter the outcome.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Mark James, son Christopher Johnson and wife Blayne, grandsons Shepard and Seager, daughter Jennifer Johnson, sister Patricia Valerio and husband Leonard, brother David Griego, stepsons Jacob and Zachary James, granddaughter Emily and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Although we are heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing we will see her again and we now have the most amazing guardian angel watching over us.
We would like to thank all of the Payer Warriors who prayed, checked in, and continue to be a source of comfort for her family.
