Born in Albermarle County, July 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Howard C. Godsey and Mary Bailey Godsey. She was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and taught Sunday school to 1st grade children for over 27 years. She also a faithfully supported many ministries. She was also known by her family as the MacGyver of household fixes. She could build or repair almost anything around her house.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Ray; four brothers, James Godsey, Herschel Godsey, Harold Godsey and Bill Godsey and four sisters, Katherine Cashmore, Marjorie Campbell, Edith Trent and Elizabeth Godsey.
She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Tinsley of Madison Heights; her son-in-law, Billy Ray of Madison Heights; one sister, Hallie Roope of Concord; two grandsons, Scott Tinsley and his wife Mandy and Jeff Ray and his wife Lisa; three great grandchildren, Laura Rush and husband Luke, Taylor Tinsley and wife Amanda and Jordan Tinsley and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service celebrating her life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. David Horsley and the Rev. Allan Monfils officiating. Masks and social distancing will be required.
