ELLIS-WILKERSON, Dawn Yvette, On Saturday, January 16, 2021, Dawn Yvette Ellis-Wilkerson, cherished wife, mother, sister and aunt, took her final breaths at the age of 61.
Dawn was born on September 9, 1959, in Richmond, Va., to Kathryn Johnson-Ellis. As the oldest of five children, Dawn was fiercely protective and supportive of her brothers, Barry E., Garry E., Sidney T. and Terrence B. Ellis.
As a freshman at Ferrum College, Dawn met her husband, Hugh J. Wilkerson Jr. During their 43-year relationship they raised two daughters, Tiamba M. (Monie) and Trakita M. (Kitta) Wilkerson.
Immensely generous and incredibly caring, Dawn made it her life's mission to help others in any and every way she could, whether it be through her long career working with the elderly and disabled in long term care, or by nurturing and supporting family and friends without hesitation and always with a big warm smile, hug and a prayer.
Dawn was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Kathryn; her grandfather, Robert J. Johnson Sr.; and nephew, Brandon B. Ellis. She is survived by her husband, daughters, brothers; father-in-law, Hugh J. Wilkerson Sr.; and aunt, Grayce J. Epps; as well as a host of family and friends, including three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held for the immediate family at Mimms Funeral Home at 1827 Hull St., Richmond, Va. 23224, at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens at 13389 Mountain Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23059.
