Franklin D. Hamilton, 79, of Pensacola, FL entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 24, 2021.

Frank was born on March 31, 1941 in Gulfport, MS to parents, Nelson and Gayle (Rowland) Hamilton. In 1942, the family moved to Foley, AL where Frank grew up. He was one of five boys. Frank learned to swim in Magnolia Springs, AL. He was a great swimmer and diver, and often competed when he was younger.

After graduating from Foley High School in 1959, Frank joined the Marine Corps and served two years before being medically discharged due to a back injury while playing football at Camp Lejeune. He then earned an associate degree in mechanical systems and eventually worked at the Naval Air Station in data processing.

Frank was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Pensacola. He enjoyed teaching middle school and Sunday School. He served as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 10, where he influenced many young men and was proud to see many of them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He also loved to be outdoors. Eddie Dubuisson, a Cajun from Louisiana, was Frank's mentor in fishing and shrimping. He spent many a day on the water catching shrimp and fish. Another favorite hobby was cutting grass with his riding lawnmower. If he was not cutting the grass of the family home acreage, he was taking care of his neighbor's yards or the church in his neighborhood. He also enjoyed metal detecting.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Gayle Hamilton; brother, James Kelley Hamilton, who passed away when Frank was only 1, and brother, Michael Kelley Hamilton, who died in 2010 near Astoria, OR.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy (Dot); daughter, Kelley Hamilton; son, Franklin D. Hamilton, Jr. and his wife (Ellen); two grandchildren, Kate and Brooks; and two brothers David (Cindy) of Houston, TX, and John of Aloha, OR.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private family graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Barrancas National Cemetery.

All friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service 10:00am Saturday, February 6, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox St. in Pensacola. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider a gift to First Baptist Church, designated to Boy Scout Troop 10, Student ministry or Children's ministry.
