Dorothy Edna (Mangus) Newton, born the eldest daughter of ten children to James and Martha (Ketner) Mangus near Shawnee, OK on August 21, 1935.

She was a lifelong resident of the Tecumseh area. She died in her home January 24, 2021. Her first marriage to Otis F. Townsend, Sr. gave her four children, Otis, Damon “Danny”, Martha and Marsha. She married Charles Newton, November 3, 1969 and they were blessed with a daughter Jamie.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Newton, in September 2013 and by her first born son, Otis F. Townsend, Jr. in February 2018. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Charles and James Mangus.

Left to cherish her memory are Debbie (Townsend) and Chester Tate, Damon “Danny” and Leesa Townsend, Martha and Wes Pittman, Marsha and Jeff Seawright, Jamie and Brandon Thrower, and Kay Shepherd Hines. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren, six sisters, one brother, and her cherished church family at Sharon Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Dawkins officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
