Paul was a devoted husband to his wife Terry (Therese) of nearly 65 years. They loved driving to warm places for vacation and even lived in Florida for a while. They really enjoyed the outdoors and often worked around the yard or went fishing or many other outdoor activities. Paul was definitely a mariner loving anything to do with the ocean and ships! Both Paul and Terry turned 90 in 2018 and the family threw them a summer birthday barbecue at their home, to celebrate the occasion!
Paul joined the Merchant Marine during World War II at a young age and was so proud to be a veteran. He remained an active member of the American Merchant Marine Veterans (AMMV) organization and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Years later he worked as a Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) patrolman. He so enjoyed his time in this role and often shared stories with the family of his many encounters while on the job. He was a very proud retiree from this job and remained an active member of the Massachusetts Police Association.
Since Terry’s death in 2019, Paul continued caring for himself in their Kingston home, with a “little help” from his niece Dianne Paull and cousins Cindy O’Meara, Carole Pidgeon and Paula Williams. In July he decided to take advantage of the extra services offered by the Grove Manor Assisted Living facility in Braintree. In November however, doctors recommended that long term care would be the best for Paul, so he moved to the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham.
Paul and Terry are together again, enjoying all of their favorite activities ailment free! The family understands that these are unusual times and want you to know that if you are unable or uncomfortable about coming to pay your final respects, your health is so much more important.
Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston on Thursday, January 28, from 9:00 to 11:00AM. A Funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston. Interment will directly follow at the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
